NEILL, John R.

Two Original Drawings from Tik-Tok of Oz

Two pen and ink drawings by Neill used in L. Frank Baum's 1914 Tik-Tok of Oz. Both are matted. The first piece appears as the headpiece for Chapter 13, page 136. The image in the book is reduced from the original which measures 10" wide by 7" high. Gathered around a huge hole in the ground called the Forbidden Tube are four citizens wearing crowns, either looking into the tube or out toward a fountain. The second image appears as the headpiece for Chapter 20, page 213. Pictured is Quox, the dragon, backing out of the hole. It also measures 10" x 7". Much of the detail in the originals is lost in the printed book's versions. For the pair.
