Unbound. Two issues. Tabloid quarto. Each is an uncut folded quarto gathering to make eight pages ([137]-144); [153]-160). Old folds and a little age-toning, very good. Contemporary ink signature of Lydia Carter on each issue. Many reports of local chapters, an article on female suicide, mention of a mission to the Sandwich Islands, and a long recitation of biblical punishments for moral turpitude (death being one of the more popular remedies). "The Advocate" was an American periodical that between 1835 and about 1845, campaigned to rescue women who were victims of moral and physical corruption and to reassert woman’s centrality to family life.
