[Playscripts] : The College Flapper [and] Corporal Eagen

Fairfield, Iowa: Universal Producing Co., 1930.

Price: $350.00

Softcover. Two playscripts. Folios sheets stapled and taped at the topedge. 25pp. and 22pp. Very good with vertical fold to both, (rear sheet of Corporal Eagen split), page toning and small tears at the edges. Two short plays produced by the Universal Producing Co. one about a bumbling private trying for a promotion and football player posing a college flapper. The company, created by the Stewart brothers of Fairfield, Iowa, produced thousands of amateur productions across the Midwest between 1928 and 1934. They would hired a space for the production, sell advertising space around the theater, and employe local talent ensuring a good turnout for each show. By some estimate the company produced more than 3,000 shows during its final year. We could find no information on the author of these play but given the number of productions create by Universal Producing and the employment of local talent, we are not surprised. An interest example of the types of amateur production created during the Depresssion.
