Die Gute Erde [The Good Earth] First German edition. Decorated cloth. Bookstpre label and owner's name on front fly, small frayed spot near crown, a little foxing on boards, a very good copy without dustwrapper. The first German edition of the author's best-known book, the first part of her House of Earth trilogy, and the book most responsible for her becoming the first American female writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Adapted first for the stage in 1933 (with Claude Rains and Nazimova in the leads), and then as an epic film by producer Irving Thalberg starring Paul Muni and Oscar winner Luise Rainer. A very nice copy of this elusive Pulitzer Prize winner. [BTC #302592] |
