The First Circle First American edition. A trifle foxed on the foredge, else fine in just about fine dustwrapper with nominal wear. Advance Review Copy with slip laid in. Translated from the Russian by Thomas P. Whitney. The first of several ambitious novels by the Nobel Prize-winner which were only published in the West and not published in his homeland until 1990. Reflecting the author's own imprisonment, the novel concerns a relatively privileged Soviet prison in which the prisoners are required to invent gadgets for the Soviet secret police. Surprisingly uncommon in collector's condition. [BTC #299323] |
