The London Magazine: And Monthly Chronologer. MDCCXLIV [1744] Bound annual volume. Contemporary full leather with red morocco spine label gilt. Half-title present. Professionally rebacked. Corners worn, modest wear to boards, very good. A full year of the monthly magazine with much on the current political, domestic, and foreign affairs, including the run-up to the French and Indian War. Of particular interest is the reporting on the death of Alexander Pope, his printed will, and the many tributes paid to him. Ownership signature (twice) of Ebenezer Storer, Junior, prominant merchant and Revolutionary War officer from Massachusetts and Maine, and subject of one of John Singleton Copley's best-known portraits, currently housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New york.
