WHITMAN, Walt

Drum-Taps [bound with] Sequel to Drum-Taps

First edition, second issue (one of only 1000 copies, the preferred issue with the inclusion of the Sequel containing the first appearances of "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd" and "O Captain! My Captain!"). Publisher's purple cloth stamped in gilt and blind. Minimal wear at the foot, a small lightened spot on the spine, a nice, very near fine copy. Housed in a custom half-morocco clamshell case (incorrectly labeled "second edition"). Upon the death of Lincoln, Whitman delayed publication to add Sequel to Drum-Taps, with separate pagination, table of contents, and title page. BAL 21398.
