Hardcover. First edition. Full leather gilt. Some edgewear and quite rubbed, still a nice, very good copy. "Chapter Eight: Autograph Letters" prints extensive correspondence with American political, military, and literary figures contributing autographs, correspondence, and manuscripts to be auctioned off at the fair, including a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes and writings by Abraham Lincoln, Herman Melville, Nathaniel Hawthorn (sic), Richard Henry Dana, Ulysses. S. Grant, Millard Fillmore, William T. Sherman, William Cullen Bryant, William Lloyd Garrison, George Thomas, James A. Garfield, and many others. The binding is usually damaged or perished on this volume; this is a sound and attractive copy.
