Unbound. Wooden plaque with medallion. Measuring 9" x 7". Some modest rubbing to the finish on the wood, near fine. The wooden plaque has beveled edges, and a medallion of a man reading a book with the legend "National Book Award." Below that is a name plaque that reads "Nonfiction / Catherine Drinker Bowen / 1957." Bowen won the award for the book *The Lion and the Throne: The Life and Times of Sir Edward Coke (1552-1634)*, a biography of the prominent lawyer of Elizabethan England, in the process beating out Henry Kissinger (*Nuclear Weapons and Foreign Policy*) and Mary McCarthy (*Memories of a Catholic Girlhood*), among others. We've never seen another National Book Award offered for sale. Provenance available on request.
