Unbound. Small engraving. 9" x 5 1/2". Bust engraving probably based on line engraving by Johann Sebastian Muller. Ornament around oval portrait. Very slight wear and soiling to edges, near fine. Charles Spencer, third Earl of Sunderland was a statesman and bibliophile. He began to form his own library in 1693 when he bought Sir Charles Scarborough's mathematical collection, and by 1699 had an incomparable library including *Tully's Offices, Homer* and *Suidas*.
