[Broadside]: Ein Stammbaum Der Schrift [with related pamphlet]: With season's wishes abundant as the branches of this tree, 1937. Bauer Type Foundry Incorporated

Frankfirt am Main: Bauerschen Giesserei, 1962.

Price: $450.00

Softcover. Large framed broadside. 33" x 27". Issued by the Bauer Type Foundry to celebrate their 125th anniversary, picturing a large tree done in black ink against a gray background with each of the important type faces in the company's history pictured in blocks placed on the branches of the tree. The blocks are printed in various colors with the example of the type face done in black on a white background. The tree begins at the base with Roman capitals and works up to Futura, Benton, Weiss and others. Accompanied by a booklet written in English with a similar image of a tree tipped-in. This tree, however, features a half-length figure with each type of script. The facing page contains entries relating a history of the origin and development of the most important typefaces. Though the tree in the pamphlet is organized in a slightly different manner than the broadsheet, it contains much of the same font samples. This is an invaluable tool in interpreting the broadsheet for those who have trouble reading German in elaborate scripts. The cover is printed in green and tan with the title, "With season's wishes abundant as the branches of this tree, 1937. Bauer Type Foundry Incorporated." Loosely inserted letter from James H. Fraser to Bernard Taylor reads, "Herewith the card which I promised you. I hope that it gives you pleasure despite the fact that it is several 44 years late." On Fairleigh Dickinson University, Friendship Library letterhead. The pamphlet is creased around the edges and the back cover is chipped on the fore and bottom edge. The corners of the broadside have small holes where it was apparently tacked to a wall without a frame at some point.
