First American edition. Translated from the Hungarian by Emil Lengyel. Fine in an age-toned, very good dustwrapper with shallow nicking at the crown. The first novel by a Hungarian published by Knopf, about a young minister in a brutal peasant village, who is subject to lies and innuendo when a local woman visits him. Scarce, especially in jacket.
