GASTON, A.G.
Typed Letter Signed
Typed letter Signed ("A.G. Gaston") dated 12 June 1948 as President, and on the letterhead of The National Negro Business League, to the Executive Secretary of the League, John H. Harmon, about the League's upcoming convention in Atlantic City and the preparation of the program. He chides Harmon for sending out press releases accusing some members of not paying their dues. Faint stain that runs the length of the left-hand margin of the letter but affecting none of the letter's text, and thus about very good. The League was founded in 1900 by Booker T. Washington, who was its first President. Gaston himself was a remarkable figure: born in 1892 in Alabama, he lived to be over 100 years old, and in his lifetime founded dozens of black-owned businesses, including several important banks, as well as wrote books on African-Americans and economics.
