BALDWIN, James
An Open Letter to My Sister, Angela Davis
Broadside from a letter written by Baldwin and published in the New York Review of Books by the Committee formed to free Davis during her trial. Approximately 13.5" x 11," on relatively stiff white paper, two light vertical creases else fine. Shrink-wrapped and suitable for framing. A rare "A" item from Baldwin's canon, this long letter is addressed directly to Davis, equating her condition to the Jews being send to extermination camps, or to their mutual ancestors being sent in chains to a supposedly Christian land, and expounding on his responsibility to speak up for her in the contemporary political climate.
