In the Belly of the Beast: Letters from Prison Sixth printing. Introduction by Norman Mailer. Fine in a lightly worn, about fine dustwrapper. This copy Inscribed by Toni Morrison, an editor at Random House at the time of publication, to fellow author James Baldwin: "To Jimmy from Toni 11.10.82." Abbott, a life-long convict, presents his bleak view of the system. He was released from prison shortly after publication, after a campaign waged by the literati. Soon thereafter he stabbed a waiter to death, and returned to the warm bosom of his institutional hell. He died in prison in 2002. [BTC #13504] |
