Shane First English edition. A little foxing to the foredge and the endpapers else fine in fine dustwrapper. The author's first book, one of the best Westerns ever written, adapted into arguably the best film the genre has ever seen (with a script by A.B. Guthrie, Jr.), in which a lone gunfighter comes to the aid of a small community. Though not nominated, Alan Ladd gave an Oscar-worthy performance (Ladd left Paramount after completing this film and allegedly the studio failed to put him up for nomination as punishment). Jack Palance, despite saying only 12 lines, received an Academy Award nomination for his creepy, career-defining role. A classic which transcends the genre and can be appreciated on many levels. A nice copy of a desirable and uncommon book. [BTC #102209] |
