Catalog 148 presents a selection of excellent books from the personal library of Jack and Ellen Vreeland. What strikes me especially about Jack, unlike many serious collectors, is that he doesn't collect what other people like, or books on a list of someone else's favorites, he collects the books that HE likes. Although not unaware of book values, he has or had no interest in books as investments. Though very aware of condition, he isn't or wasn't tempted by beautiful books unless they were the books that he had wanted anyway. In that sense these books were not so much of a library, as they were very much a "personal" library.
